"Release" was the primary connotation, so your thought was correct.

I believe the title is a wordplay on 'dropping acid' which is slang

And that is the secondary connotation; the "drops Acid" in the title is a double-entendre. So if you picked up on the secondary connotation, then you also got to appreciate the wittiness of the title.
