I tried to have an apartment for a year and a half in the worst area of Stockton, the worst town I have ever seen. Couldn't afford it, quit paying rent after several things made it technically - legally, as I sued and won, but the pro-landlord judge there in Bumfuck decided I owed 2 grand anyway - uninhabitable.
Finally I lived at the public library in Berkeley through the end of 2022. In there at opening stayed all day making these things. I did have a spot in a wooded area under the freeway mid-2006 through to May '09. Computer was in storage, I gave it to my roommate in '09 when I got my first MBP.
Addendum: former mod Hink here was very discouraging when I mentioned that suit here. I f**king won, as I knew the f**king law.

He stood to be sued for defamation. I can say that now because I dropped it. Tough row to hoe in the US but I had a potentially viable case because evidence was massive.
