What's your point? Plenty of software is open sourced by commercial companies. Steinberg allow use of VST3 under an open source license.

Owners of Steinberg/Cubase and frankly u-he Bitwig are the last people who should complain about non open sourced software or have any ideological issues with VST3

That's a strawman, if they complain about non-open sourced software at all (and they probably dont) they obviously dont complain about non-open sourced software purely because its non-open sourced.

As for ideological issues with VST3, I think anyone with any awareness knows that the issues are more likely to be about the fact that Steinberg uses the proprietary nature of VST and license against their competition, forcing them to deprecate legacy plugin format compatibility etc.
Why would any company be happy about Steinberg controlling those kinds of business decisions. I guess you think that's a good thing, though?
