Long time Cakewalk/Sonar here as well, and was also put off by the rental only deal. Glad to see someone else using an older version of Sonar as their main DAW.
It's main for me, good old Sonar Artist.
I have bought Samp ProX8 and dived into a bit, but still too many awkward things to really start projects there.... have licenses for StudioOne 4.x, Reaper 4.x and Cubase 9.5.
- when Presonus make a reality check on policies and fix certain things I might get StudioOne in future.
I'm currently using my second (third?) choice, Mixcraft, which does the job, but I miss the old Sonar look and workflow.
If I may ask, are you finding Sonar reasonably stable? I've been considering going back to Sonar Platinum, but am worried it may no longer be reliable enough as my main DAW. That said, I'm no power user, and would be using it for basic MIDI and audio. Even back in the day, I probably used only 5% of its features, and never experienced any of the bugs reported by others.
Are you on Win 10? Win 11? TIA.
