This seems to have several intros. While you can do that, it does seem odd in Pop.
Then it takes until about 2:00 to introduce unique melodic elements (which I do like).
The break around 3:15 is interesting. Modern but not obnoxiously so.
I think you could make more of it with a real contrast - like Tears For Fears did with "Change" which totally knocked my socks off at the time.
