For me, this is the first of its kind to listen to: a modern re-mixing/mastering of a vintage vinyl recording. My thought while listening to it was that the vocals needed more treatment to make them sound more clear and prominent in the mix. To me, it was as if the vocals sounded '40s-era while the rest of the music sounded '60s or newer; I'm thinking the track would seem more coherent as a whole if the vocals were a bit more present and spread out more in the stereo field. I'm certainly no authority when it comes to revitalizing a vintage recording (or when its comes to anything with regarding music production), so feel free to take my subjective $.02 with a grain of salt.
Thank you very much for the feedback. You confirmed what was my main doubt.
Initially, the voices after mastering were too loud, but I couldn’t figure out how to lower the level. I went back and forth between the mixing and mastering sessions for hours, but in the end the voice always sounded too loud no matter what. Eventually I found out that the culprit was the fab filter volcano2 pumping them vocals like crazy.
In any case, you are right, I want to try adding 0.5db on the Volcano.
It would be much easier if I could put it on SoundCloud, but for some reason I can’t explain, even though there are 200 versions of this song on SoundCloud, mine is marked as a copyright infringement and deleted.
If I make an mp3 clip, can I attach it here on the post? Thanks again.
